iPad 101: Moving Icons and Creating Folders

As you begin to download new, amazing apps onto your iPad, you may find that your device will start to look cluttered. In addition, when you go back to use the wonderful app you downloaded last week, it might be difficult to find. One of the easiest ways to keep your iPad organized is by creating folders and moving related apps into a single folder. Creating folders is easy to do and can help you navigate the apps on your iPad more efficiently!

Moving Icons - Enter wiggle mode on your iPad by touching any app icon and holding it for two seconds. All of your apps will begin to wiggle, hence the name wiggle mode! Release and all of your apps will continue to wiggle. Once the icons are in wiggle mode, you can rearrange the apps by simply holding your finger down on the icon that you want to move and dragging it to the new location. Once it is in the new location, let go and it will stay. You will notice as you move an app that the other apps will move over to make room for the new app. Please note that moving apps between screens is a little tricky. You must press and move the app to the middle edge of the screen on the side of the iPad and hold it there for a  second or two. Then, the screen will jump to the next page while you are still holding the app with your finger. Once you are on the next page, you can place the app in the desired location!

Wiggle Mode
Creating Folders - To create a folder, you must first enter wiggle mode (see Moving Icons above). While in wiggle mode, press and hold an app and move it on top of a similar app that you would like to place in the same folder. When you place one app on top of another app, a black box forms around the two apps and creates a folder. Automatically, a text box will pop up. The text box will contain a folder name chosen based on the apps in the folder. You can customize the name of the folder by tapping inside the text box, deleting the name created by the device, and typing in your preferred name.
Creating Folders
Once an app has been placed inside a folder, it can always be moved to a different folder. To move an app out of a folder, enter wiggle mode, press and drag the app, and place it somewhere in the grey area outside of the folder. You can then move it into a different folder or leave the app on the main screen.

The first time I entered wiggle mode, I thought it was awesome until it was time to exit wiggle mode. Nobody told me how to exit wiggle mode! After some trial and error, I discovered that exiting wiggle mode is as easy as pressing the home button (the circular button on the face of your iPad). How simple!

Take some time to create folders for your related apps. It will be worth your time so you can find your apps more easily!
